Sleep paralysis is one hell of a ride. One minute you’re sleeping and then something wakes you up, and now you can’t move your body. You just want to scream but you can’t.
Time is slowly passing by and then there’s a demon sitting beside you… or on top of you. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Okay, so the first time I experienced sleep paralysis (and this is still probably the most horrible one so far) was back when I was a young and innocent 12 years old.
I was always sleeping late playing a game on my father’s phone. Because at that age, I don’t even have my phone yet. So whenever I get my hands on my father’s phone, I’d play the hell out of it until the batteries are drained.
I was playing a game called Miami Nights and boy, I was reeeeally addicted to that game.
It was a role playing game and it’s like a 2-bit version of the Sims but much better. I was so into it that even though my eyes are really heavy and it was almost 1 in the morning, I’m still awake playing it.
I only stopped playing because I heard my father woke up and he was searching for his phone. Luckily, I was able to put the phone where he last placed it and rushed to my bed.
When I was lying on my bed, I was thinking of dressing my character in a red dress and I was sooo excited to try it the next time I played the game.
After fantasizing about what I should do in my next adventure in that game, I’ve fallen asleep.
And I dreamed of being in a foggy and dark forest. After inspecting the forest and wandering around, I saw a young girl in a red dress. I can’t see her face in my dream at that time. But she came up to me and invited me to play a game.
“Let’s play a game”
And then she handed over a stick to me.
“What game should we play?”
She didn’t say anything after that but she started drawing some scribbles on the ground so I figured it was just that so I just started doing it. Being a 12 yr old, it was kinda fun for me even though I didn’t know what I was actually doing.
But then, when I looked up and looked at her, I could now clearly see her face. She was staring at me. Well, I THINK she was staring at me. She had no eyes.
She kinda looks like Coraline with the buttons as eyes, but hers are more horrid because it was like she had 2 voids for eyes on her face.
She was just staring at me and then she opened her mouth and she screamed.
I was suddenly awakened by this horrible encounter and I said to myself, thank God it was just a dream. But then I realized, I couldn’t move my body.
I thought to myself, “Oh, frick. Am I dead?! Did the girl in my dreams kill me?!”
And then I just noticed that the lights are out and we don’t have electricity in our house because the fan wasn’t working as well.
Oh great. I’m dead and NOW the lights are out?! What’s next?
I tried screaming but no words came out because I couldn’t move everything in my body.
It was so dark in my room that my eyes were just starting to adjust to the darkness. I was scanning my room but when I looked at the foot of my bed, there she was. The girl from my dreams! I can’t see her face but I can clearly see her red dress. Oh, frick.
I GOT TRIPLE WHAMMIED! Except what happened to me is all horrible.
At this point, I just really wanna cry. I still can’t move my body and I don’t even know what’s happening.
I’m dead, the lights are out and my murderer is standing at the foot of my bed.
Oh frick, oh frick, oh frick.
I didn’t wanna know what’ll happen to me next because it will just be horrible as what is currently happening to me. So I just closed my eyes and tried to calm myself down. At this point, I was really just trying to go back to sleep but it was hard because I was sweating and the electricity is out and there’s a demon standing at the foot of my bed.
As i was trying to sleep, I just noticed that the clock in our living room is ticking so fast. I know that it was our clock that I was hearing because I always hear it before I go to sleep.
Is that even possible? Am I fast forwarding through time?
This discovery helped me calm down a bit and I didn’t even know why and it just made me fall asleep.
When I woke up, it was morning and the sun was up.
Hurray, I’m not dead!
The girl in the red dress isn’t there anymore, the fan is working and the ticking of the clock is back to normal. I was so relieved after having to survive a nightmare like that, that I almost cried after waking up. I think I haven’t told this to anyone because I don’t think they’ll ever care anyway.
Years later, when I got my first phone and discovered the fun world of the I N T E R N E T, I researched about what I had experienced and I was shocked to know that there are so many out there who have experienced sleep paralysis and it was quite normal for people who lack sleep.
For years, I genuinely thought that what I experienced was a near death experience and that Satan was actually the girl in my dreams.
But I’m REALLY curious if people experienced hearing the fast ticking of the clock while having a sleep paralysis. I mean, I know now that sleep paralysis is normal but I’ve never heard/read someone mention hearing the clock ticking fast.
